After, getting her youngest daughter off to college 4 years ago, Amy has been found regularly auditioning and performing in the Chicago, New York, Detroit and Florida markets. She has been a proud Equity member for over 30 years, as well as a member of SAG/AFTRA and AGMA. Known for her sense of humor, versatility, and powerful singing voice, Amy has performed professionally all across the United States on tour, as well as summer stock, regional theatre, dinner theatre, TYA and opera.
Amy Dolan-Malaney was born and raised in the Chicago area, and was introduced to the world of the arts by her mother, who was mezzo-soprano and classroom music teacher. She caught the acting bug early, taking classes and performing with the Tom Thumb players in Chicago. Amy studied Music Education at DePauw University in Indiana, and then continued on to the University of Illinois where she received her Masters Degree in Music in Vocal Performance. After graduation, Amy moved to NYC and proceeded to work in theatres across the country. In 1984, she booked the first National Tour of DO BLACK PATENT LEATHER SHOES REALLY REFLECT UP?, after famously wearing her actual high school uniform to the audition. She also can be heard on the Broadway cast album of this show. |
After the tour, Amy returned to work in Chicago and while there met her husband, Dennis Malaney. They relocated to the Detroit area, where Amy managed to never stop performing. She did manage to squeeze in time to have 3 beautiful and talented daughters, Mary, Patty, and Maggie. Amy spent over 20 years in the AGMA chorus at Michigan Opera Theatre located at the beautiful Detroit Opera House. She performed on the mainstage as well as touring with their Community Programs Dept. She was also active teaching private lessons, directing theatre for youth as well as 5 years of high school classroom music. Now that all three of her daughters are out of the nest and embarking on their own theatrical careers, Amy is once again branching her career beyond Michigan. She frequents NYC and Chicago for classes and auditions and even snowbirding down in the Florida market. She is beyond excited to see where this next chapter takes her! |
